It started deep in space; far, far from home. There had been an impact to their ship, and what looked like comet debris from a near by moving body, turned out to be something more sinister. When crews were sent to look in on the damage, doing space walks along with outside of the ship, they found organic material. The Scientist on the ship were naturally curious, and a shuttle was set up with a lab, just off the port side of the ship. They studied the samples for weeks, as well as one of the larger “rocks” that had impacted the ship.
It wasn’t until one fateful day, when a lack of proper procedure had cause one of the scientists to come in contact directly with a sample. Where before it was in a dormant state, suddenly it leapt to life, wriggling and launching itself about. It was eventually contained, but tireless in it’s pursuit to escape.
It wasn’t long before we, those of us on the mainship, grew tired of updates, as they didn’t change. Life on the mainship went back to normal, most of us forgetting there was something scientifically exciting going on not too far from us. What is a new lifeform, if all it ever does is bash itself against some glass???
It had been weeks, and repairs were complete, and the mainship was ready to get on it’s way. The Scientists wanted to bring the samples, but the Captain said to abandon them, we had a mission, and it was far more important. High Command had decided we were to put a tracking beacon in the shuttle, and leave it where it was. Eventually, someone would come around to collect it, on their way back home.
This decision had been made just before Sharielle had ended her shift. Everyone on next shift was to start the procedures for them to get underway, and the scientists were coming back on board within a few hours. She had eaten, cleaned off and went to bed, fully expecting to be somewhere else upon waking. So she was a little foggy when 4 hours into her sleep, she woke up to blaring com alerts and emergency lights.
Slightly taken aback by they low lit room, and the strange noises out in the hall, she quickly donned her outerspace grade combat gear, grabbed her weapon, as well as her combistick, and headed out her door. When just moments ago, there was noises galore it was eerily silent in the main passageway now. She followed the emergency lights down to a T-intersection, coming across some strange goo on the ground. It was black and glossy, and almost looked like it moved. Rushing by, she continued on to the security room on her level.
It took her 3 minutes to get to that side of the ship, with each turn showing more signs of something distressing happening on the ship. There was discharge blasts lining the walls, and a few quarters had their doors dented or partially ripped. She saw no bodies, no blood, just black smears of goo. Sometimes she would look back, and it was like it had moved, or collected together. She kept moving tho, she was so close, one more turn.
That is when things changed. This hall was so much more different than the others. The walls were ribbed, slick and dripping. what looked like bones where quickly engulfed by the black goo she had seen all the way here. There were bodies here, of crew-mates, now dead. The Goo, which she could only assume was the alien lifeforms the scientist had been studying, collected together to make larger masses. These larger masses were using the dead, and taking their organic material, somehow changing it, and turning it into building material. That is what these walls were made out of, her fellow crew-mates.
Ever so slowly, she backed up, moving away from the workers, trying not to alert them. As with most humans in unknown crisis, she was looking at the problem ahead, and not behind where she was going. Inadvertently she stepped on one of the smaller globs of goo. It made an indescribable noise, not like anything a human could emit, and then everything went super silent. She took her foot off the creature, while nothing else continued to move. She thought she was dead, but the creatures went back to work. They only ever paused when she moved, as she tried to inch away. She was at a loss as to what to do. They were working ever closer to her, coming down the hall, using her friends to make their strange walls.
At some point she sat, with the bigger creatures barely giving her much mind now. The little ones slithered over her boots, chasing each other, sometimes coming together to form a bigger blob. She listened to the noises from other floors, sure that parts of the ship were blasted open. She could hear the blasts, and feel the pressure to her suit, as the inner atmosphere changed. She was running out of air, and knew she would die if she stayed. When faced with dead either way, was it cowardly to succumb to a more peaceful dead in sleep, or brave the creatures and be turned into a wall?
Sometime, hours later, it seemed she had made up her mind without even knowing. She was still sitting there, her mind blank, as the creatures started to tear at her suit. She was barely conscious, her brain deprived of oxygen, as the cold space infused air crept in. Her mind barely registered the creatures eating away at her flesh, starting on her left side, along her leg and arm. She knew what they were doing, could register it, but could not connect it to pain, just the knowledge of being eaten alive. She marveled at how efficient and fast they were, as her body began to shut down. There was no mess, just the open aftermath. Her last view was over her tendons and bone, as they ate her to her core. Her mind blissfully blinked off after that.
You would think that was that, but she blipped, back into awareness, briefly, sometime later. It was as if a dream, her hugged into a tight embrace, with liquid fire racing in her veins. She could not move her head, and her vision was different, muddled, almost moving like a mirage. Her skin felt like it was boiling and bubbling, then melting off, only to reform. Her ribs cracked, and parts of her burst forth from what little of her body she had left. The smaller creatures, she could see slide over the black edges near her face, over the lip, and down. She could barely feel them, but knew they were going to the newly opened wounds on her body. That is when she did feel something different, their cool presence, entering her, sliding within her. They traveled all over, wriggling masses of them, filling her up. It was when they reached her heart, she noticed that it no longer beat. She was truly dead, but if so, how was she feeling any of this. Was this her hell, to still feel them, even after hear death? was this the price she had to pay for her cowardice?
The next time she came aware, she was on the ground, in the hall. Black shards littered the ground and her body. She could feel the wriggling under her skin, and see them, the creatures, along the edge of her wounds. As she gained the strength to move, she saw she had fallen from a cove in the wall. It looked like they had almost cocooned her in, making her a part of the wall, until sometime made it give. There was no more light, the ships energy had long since depleted. She didn’t know how long she had been out, but she felt it had been weeks, if not months. She recalled a memory, lifted her skeletal hand and felt for her heart. There was no beat. It made no sense.
She could feel the cold of space, feel the wriggle of the creatures under her skin, but no beat of her heart. She had darkened veins now, ones that wriggled. The creatures were what was animating her, pumping her back into existence. Why, she did not know. She felt mild amusement as she saw them wriggle out her leg hole, to chase each other up to her arm hole. She felt like she should be horrified, but it really didn’t seem real. More like a macabre dream.
Her thoughts shifted as she head something heavy buckle to the side of the ship. she felt, or nearly heard something in her mind. Not a voice, but something that made her feel like it was danger, that it was going to kill them all. Then she felt heat, but not in the traditional sense. She still felt cold, she just knew the air, or lack of, was rising in temperature. Getting up fully, she started towards the source.
She could hear those inhuman screams, like the one she heard once, when she stepped on a little goo creature. These ones were different, much worse, and close to the source of the heat. As she followed the ribbed walls, she came closer and closer to the sounds. Fire licked along the walls, as creatures, big and small, tried to get out of the inferno’s path. She watched as the smaller ones, not as fast as their bigger brothers and sisters, melted up with piercings screeches. She gathered what little ones she could, and put them into her wounds.
She felt strong, energized, and seemingly untouchable by fire. She felt sudden wrath, that anything would want to kill these creatures. She felt connected to them, in some way, as they wriggled around inside her, giving her animation.
They were her death, but are now her life, and low be the ones who seek their destruction. It might not have been their intent, what they did to her, but she felt now she had a purpose, something beyond what she had in her life. She was death, and she was coming.
With her Necromorphosis complete, Sharielle stepped through the flames, and started her reign as the Writhing Red Death.
Well that was fun! I worked way too much this month, and didn’t have much time for actual blogging(like fashion blogging I mean). Things finally slowed down for me a bit after Necrotize launched, so here I am, looking all snazzy.
I am rather enjoying the new mesh head from Logo, that is currently free for their 15th store anniversary event. There is a male one too. These were updated to a newer system, and work super well with BOM skins that are based off of the original SLUV. I dug skins I had made, all the way back from 2009, and can say, it didn’t look horrible, and I wasn’t that awesome at the skin making back then. I also managed to make it the most Helena looking out of all the heads I have ever tried. I might do a bit more shape tweaking, but it is so close. Super happy with it.
I’m wearing the AlaskaMetro Skin and Eyelashes, which are also at the event, and are a steal. The Skin is only L$200 and the eyelashes are L$95. There are other designers at the event too, with more items created to go with the two new heads. Lots of deals as well.
I dug around my folders and mixed some Necrotize Exclusives inn with some of the Second Life Syndicate Group Gifts that are free at the event, to make the outfit for this look. I like how it eventually came together. With the face markings from Rainbow Sundae, I actually layered the black on top of the red, to make for a more defined look to the scarified feeling of the markings. The Veins from TF really helped complete my vision as well. I had to play with the layer order a lot, but it ended up coming out perfectly in the end.
Necrotize runs until November 20th, you can catch a TP HERE.
